Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Marisa Hanrahan and I am your child's new School Counselor. I am so happy to be here!
I wanted to give you some background about me and let you know how I can support you and your child/children throughout this school year. I am a former Elementary Teacher (I taught 1st & 2nd grade for a number of years), I spent six years working in Australia as Leading Teacher of a children's wellness organization teaching social & emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness classes in K-12 schools and presenting workshops to teachers and school staff about how to incorporate mindfulness and SEL into the classroom. Last school year I worked as a K-5 School Counselor in Florida and this is my first year in the Lyndhurst School District.
My goal as a School Counselor is to ensure that every child is succeeding socially, emotionally and academically. I do this through:
Weekly social/emotional learning (SEL) lesson in each classroom
- Individual and small group support sessions
- Behavior modification support
- Academic support
- Character education
- School wide initiatives
- Providing information about child development
- Weekly parent letter to explain the SEL topic of the week and ways you can continue the learning at home
I offer various support sessions including, but not limited to:
- Grief
- Changing families
- Anxiety/worries
- Academic support
- Behavior modification
- Social skills
- Friendship
If you'd like to set up an appointment with me to discuss the needs of your child, or would like to refer your child for brief, short-term school based counseling, please send me an email or complete the below form:
